Craniopharyngioma
is a brain tumor that is typically both cystic and solid in structure. This type of brain tumor is commomly found in the area of the pituitary gland and the nerves that relay vision from the eye to the brain, and may grow up into the base of the brain.
Symptoms from craniopharyngioma vary depending upon the tumors location. Symptoms can include growth failure, delayed puberty, loss of normal menstrual function or sexual desire, increased sensitivity to cold, fatigue, constipation, dry skin, nausea, low blood pressure, and depression. Most patients diagnosed with this type of brain tumor are between children and adults over 50 years of age.
Treatment for severe conditions of craniopharyngioma is typically surgery or irradiation. Gamma Knife Surgery is sometimes used in treating craniopharyngioma. Please consult with your Physician to see whether this type of non-invasive surgery may be applicable to your condition.
