Benign TumorsPituitary Adenomas
Pituitary adenomas are slow growing benign tumors commonly located in the pituitary gland. They represent 10 to 15 percent of all brain tumors and are found in 6 to 24 percent of adults at autopsy. Those that are small (less than 1 cm in largest diameter) are called microadenomas, while larger tumors (greater than 1 cm) are commonly called macroadenomas.
Treatment options will depend on the type and size of the tumor. Where the benign tumor is large, surgery or radiation therapy is usually recommended.
Gamma Knife Surgery is sometimes used in treating pituitary adenomas. Please consult with your Physician to see whether this type of non-invasive surgery may be applicable to your condition. Contact Florida Hospital Gamma Knife Center Call 407-303-2724 or toll free 1-800-241-1089.
