Trigeminal Neuralgia

Trigeminal Neuralgia also known as Tic Douloureux is a functional disorder of the trigeminal nerve. This disorder causes severe and intense pain in the jaw, lips, nose, eyes, forehead and scalp and tends to develop in people over the age of 40.

While trigeminal neuralgia can affect both women and men, women are twice as likely to have this disorder.

The duration of trigeminal neuralgia attacks can be as short as a few seconds as long as several months. These attacks however are not fatal but can lead suffers to stop engaging in normal activities, become depressed and even be suicidal.

Gamma Knife Surgery is sometimes used in treating Trigeminal Neuralgia. Please consult with your Physician to see whether this type of non-invasive surgery may be applicable to your condition.
